Welcome to your degree

Lazaridis is your place to #LiveYourDegree. We genuinely mean this, but before you meet the students here, visit campus or come to an event, check out the highlights for the Economics, BBA or Double Degree programs offered here.

"Lazaridis is much more than a school with everything it has to offer. But, it is what you make it; living your degree is where you get the most out of everything LazSoc and the community has to offer."

FAQ about LazSoc

What is LazSoc?
Short answer: We are your student society/student government here at Lazaridis. As a Laurier student in the Lazaridis faculty, you are both a member of Students' Union and LazSoc automatically.

Long answer: The Lazaridis Students’ Society (LazSoc) is a student-led organization comprised of all 6,000 undergraduate Lazaridis Business & Economics students at Wilfrid Laurier University. The Lazaridis Students’ Society acts as a link between students, faculty, and members of the surrounding business and economics community.

Each semester, the Lazaridis Student’s Society offers resources, programs, and unique events tailored to broaden students’ professional and personal development. The Lazaridis Students’ Society supports the initiatives and programming of the 25+ Lazaridis business and economics clubs and associations, who are committed to the development of key student interests.

The Lazaridis Students’ Society is dedicated to representing the interests of all undergraduate Lazaridis Business & Economics students. We strive to support and enhance the student experience and provide opportunities for students to discover and pursue their passions.

The Lazaridis Students’ Society is funded through the SBE Faculty Fee (SBE Levy) and sponsorships from corporate partners. The fee, which is paid by all Lazaridis SBE students each semester, has been in effect since 1995, and has continued to be our main source of funding. The Fee has helped grow the Lazaridis Students’ Society into a multi-purpose organization: representing the Lazaridis student body, funding and facilitating clubs, and providing engaging events and programs. The organization does not make any profit off of these funds – we are solely working to improve the student experience at the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics.
What is a club or association?
OKTA is our single sign-on (SSO) provider that gives you access to additional tools like Adobe, Canva, MS365, GSuite, etc. in one place. Based on if you're a member, alumni, club executive or President/EVP we will assign your specific account with access to different tools.

If you've just made an account, it might take us a few hours to assign these to your profile as the system requires our team to approve new additions. This usually takes 1-3 business days.
What is the difference between a 'Club Member' and a 'Club Executive'?
As per contracts with all of our executive members on clubs, you are not permitted from keeping your GSuite account given the information often kept about partners, team communications, club activities, etc. You can create an Outlook/MS365 account with us at any time, but we will most likely deactivate your club associated Google account once you graduate.
When does hiring happen for first-year students?
Club Executives are anyone who is hired on a club at any time during the year. Presidents will add you to the GSuite that operates the main point of communications and file sharing for you as an executive member.

Presidents are hired at the end of the Winter term/start of the Spring term usually and are assigned additional MyLazSoc services after being hired.

For both cases, our team will add any manual services to your account once our Clubs team receives your club's 'member roster' and/or contracts.
What is MyLazSoc?
MyLazSoc is our online services portal for our members, club executives and club leadership teams. For more information on what features you can access, click here.
What is CABS?
LazSoc is proudly a member of CABS, the Canadian Association of Business Students.

CABS is the national business student association shaping the future of business in Canada by developing leadership and talent nationwide. The Canadian Association of Business Students (CABS) is a not for profit organization that represents over 70,000 business students from 26 universities in Canada. Their purpose is simple; to develop superior talent and leadership within business students across Canada. They organize some of the largest business student conferences and competitions which involve leadership development and personal growth.
Do I have to pay to be a member of LazSoc?
As a student in the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics, you are automatically a member and pay into the LazSoc levy. You cannot opt-out of the levy and it only applies to students in this faculty. Besides this, you do not pay for membership on LazSoc.
Where can I get LazSoc/Lazaridis merchandise?
If you're waiting to get access to upgraded services (ie Club executives, Presidents, etc.) it may take us some time to assign additional services to your OKTA account (this is made automatically when you make your MyLazSoc account and can be accessed at lazsoc.okta.com).

(1) Can't access your account? Try resetting your password.
(2) Want to contact our team? Click here.
(3) I have something urgent and want to reach the technical person at LazSoc. Email our team.
How many clubs/associations should I join?
You are welcome to join as many as you'd like! However, it is recommended that you choose ones that you're interested in and can give time towards. Depending on your bandwidth, the number of courses you're taking, part-time work, etc. you can reasonably handle 1-2 executive member positions (this is just the advice from our team...apply to as many positions as you'd like!).
How do LazSoc vice presidents/president(s) get hired?
LazSoc's President(s) are hired by member vote each Winter term (often late January/early February) and each student in the Lazaridis faculty are given an option during the Students' Union election to vote for their choice of LazSoc president(s).

Once the LazSoc President(s) are elected, they then conduct hiring for their Executive Leadership Team consisting of their Vice Presidents.
What is the 'Clubs Office'?
The Clubs Office is the homestay for LazSoc and for all of our clubs and associations. It is located in Lazaridis Hall on the first floor in room LH1020.

If you are picking up physical items from our store and have selected the "Pick-Up on Campus" option, this is where you will be able to get your item(s).
Is LazSoc managed by the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics or Wilfrid Laurier University?
If you're waiting to get access to upgraded services (ie Club executives, Presidents, etc.) it may take us some time to assign additional services to your OKTA account (this is made automatically when you make your MyLazSoc account and can be accessed at lazsoc.okta.com).
